Department of Orthodontics

Oral and dental health is a major health problem, which also influences social activities of the person. Well-groomed teeth reinforce self-reliance of the person. This is undoubtedly achieved by caring oral and dental health.

Importance of Orthodontics

Periodontal diseases are among the most important health problems in both our country and the world. However, because they do not directly affect the life, they are underemphasized.
The mouth is the beginning of the digestive tract. Any problems in the mouth cause deterioration of dental health and adversely affect the digestion system. Foods taken by mouth are chewed and mixed with saliva, making ready for swallowing and digestion. The mouth also helps you speak. The tongue containing taste buds have also important functions such as chewing, swallowing, speaking etc.

Teeth play an important role in digestion of foods as well as in speaking and our appearance. People with missing teeth have difficulties in speaking, chewing and/or biting. Milk teeth that first appear in the development process of the teeth leave their places in permanent teeth.

The two most important diseases in oral and dental health are dental caries and gingivitis. Periodontal diseases can sometimes have an effect that extends to the jawbone containing alveolus. Deteriorated dental health can also affect other organs in the body. Teeth can become a constant source of infection, which affects almost all systems, causing infections resulting in serious health problems in important body parts including heart, kidney, joints etc.

The absence of any structural and functional impairment in the mouth and teeth, and the ability of the mouth and teeth to perform their full function indicate the presence of “oral and dental health”.

How Oral and Dental Health is Protected?

Early diagnosis is very important for the prevention of tooth diseases and the protection of dental health. Thus, dental examination twice a year is recommended.
Sufficient fluoride content in water, regular teeth brushing, using dental floss, avoiding sweet foods as much as possible and brushing teeth after eating such foods and not skipping dental examinations are the basic practices implemented to prevent tooth caries. Habit of brushing teeth and regular dentist checks play an important role in preventing gingival diseases.

In the case of dental development problems, a specialist dentist should be applied as early as possible to start the necessary treatment.

Extremely acidic and sugary foods increase the effect of microorganisms. Teeth should not be tampered with hard objects and shelled foods such as nut, walnut etc. should be broken by teeth. This may result in cracked tooth enamel and increased bacterial effect. The preventive function of tooth enamel is disrupted.

Certain bone reconstruction methods are used to reconstruct the bone tissue lost. Thus, the lost jawbone is reconstructed. This technique is called as “Box Technique”. For detail information please visit: www.boxteknik.com.

Implant Treatment

Implant treatment is a treatment option for the patients with one or more missing teeth. Missing teeth cause the patient to suffer from many periodontal and functional problems. A certain bone level is required for implantation. Otherwise, the jawbone of the patient should be constructed at first. Implant treatment may be applied to everyone with completed bone development. Implant treatment may be applied to patients with diabetics, heart disorders, and high blood pressure after taking appropriate prophylactic measures in consultation with the related physician.

Dental Aesthetic (CEREC)

Dental Aesthetic with Cered Cad/Cam Technology

DIGITAL SMILE DESIGN

Thanks to the developments in imaging systems, conventional dental impression technique (with spoon) is replaced with digital impressions taken by high-resolution cameras. In dental aesthetic, the most common non-metal porcelain restorations such as E-max – zirconium – laminate veneer- are fully performed using such devices. Since Digital Impression Systems are used in dental impression, the need of using impression measuring spoons and materials is removed.

 Panoramic Radiography

Dental radiography is a method that helps the dentist to diagnose dental and jaw problems. For example, while only large caries can be determined by intraoral examination, early diagnosis of caries is possible by radiography. Moreover, radiography allows for determination of the focus of dental abscess, dental deformities, root fractures, cysts or tumors. General situation of wisdom teeth, their roots and their relations with support bones can be determined by panoramic radiography. However, panoramic radiography cannot deliver three-dimension of bone, and the dentist benefits from dental tomography images where required.

RVG – Micro Camera

Oral cavity is assessed in detail with an intra-oral camera during a complete examination. It is as if the patient has a tour in her/his oral cavity. This tiny camera takes photographs of each tooth in the mouth and then images are transferred to a monitor, where the patient is also looking at.  Thus, the patient will have the opportunity to know his/her oral cavity in detail and to understand his/her dental problem well.

When oral cavity is examined as specified by the patient, it is possible to visualized various intra-oral pathologies, lesions, broken filling materials and teeth, various gingival problems, caries and other invisible pathologies.

Dental Volumetric Tomography (3D VT)

Dental tomography device is a device that converts the data obtained from jaw and a tooth zone to three-dimension image and transfers them into digital environment.
